About Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy

After having a journey with the Mortal Instruments series, I finally read Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy. Each book of this series is thick and I needed more and more time to finish. This book is no exception. I had a problem with the characters: I hated some of them.

Clary was the reckless, stubborn girl who acted without thinking just to save her beloved Jace. Alec was a possessive guy. He couldn’t respect Magnus’ decision not to tell him all of his past just because he didn’t want to hurt Alec’s feelings and kept pushing Magnus. I mean, okay he was resented by his parents — who’s also Max and Isabelle’s parents — but that didn’t mean he could be an asshole. Jace was Clare’s version of an ideal, perfect guy who loved her wholeheartedly and would do anything to keep her safe. Clare probably fell in love with her character, she created Clary as her alter-self.

Now, let’s get back to Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy. This book is a supplementary to the Mortal Instruments series. It shows Simon going to Shadowhunter Academy to reclaim his memory after he sacrificed himself to save his friends. This book is a little different from Mortal Instruments. Clare collaborated with various writers in each chapter, so although the chapters make the story as a whole, the feels of each chapter are different. I remember one of the chapters had a redundant sentence when talking about Simon’s roommate, George.

This book made me hate Simon as much as I hated Clary, Alec, and Jace. I understand, he must feel like his previous self was a whole different person and he’s having an impostor syndrome. Everyone remembers him, but he can’t remember what happened to him or his memories with the Shadowhunters. He’s contradicting: he doesn’t want to make people disappointed because of his amnesia, but keeps pushing Isabelle away although she clearly says that she’s fine with his new state. Bruh.

Yapping about books (mostly), but I might talk about something else if I feel like it
